Most people don’t have the space to store a large supply of logs inside, and so this is where log stores come in. Log stores offer a safe and dry place to store your logs outside, with at least some protection from the elements.
If you’re DIY-savvy, you might be able to build your own log store – but why not make life easier, and choose one of the ready-made options already out there? These log stores come in many sizes and styles, so there’s sure to be one that suits your garden and storage needs.
To help you choose, we’ve put together this list of 5 of the best log stores on the market, from some of the most reputable garden brands.

Our favourite log store has a sturdy construction and solid sides, for superior weather protection
Cost: Price not available
It was a tough one to call, but the log store that eventually won out as our top pick is this Cottesmore High Wooden Store by Rutland County Garden Furniture, which measures W 150 x D 80 x H 127 cm.
This one beat off the competition mostly due to its sturdy construction, and solid back and sides, which offer better protection from the elements than many competitors. A raised platform base means your logs will stay off the ground, and prevents them from soaking up moisture this way.
It’s made from FSC-approved sustainable timber, which is pressure-treated, to make it more durable, and help prevent internal moisture. This means it won’t require any treatment on arrival. The fixings are also corrosion-resistant, so the store should last for a long time.
The log store is available in a choice of Light Green or Rustic Brown, so you can choose the one which best matches the rest of your garden furniture. It will require some self assembly on arrival, but this is fairly easy, as many of the screws are already partly screwed in, and full instructions are provided.
Overall, this log store is strong and robust, with thick planks and a design that will keep your logs well-protected from moisture. It is the most expensive option on our list, but considering the quality on offer, we think it’s more than worth it.
- Made from FSC-approved, sustainable timber.
- Heavy duty 3×3 posts, and thick slats.
- Wood is pressure-treated, to withstand the elements.
- Corrosion-resistant fixings ensure it will last longer.
- Solid sides offer improved weather protection.
- Raised floor keeps your logs off the ground.
- Available in a choice of finishes – Light Green or Rustic Brown.
- No felt on the roof.
- This is our most expensive log store.
This compact log store is perfect for those on a budget, or with fewer logs to store

If you’re searching for a more affordable log store, this Easipet Wooden Log Store, which is less than half the price of our top pick, might be of interest.
This one is made from treated fir and plywood and is finished with a waterproof stain, to help it withstand the elements. It also has a durable felt roof, to better protect the contents from rain.
Unlike the Cottesmore, the sides of this one aren’t solid, so more rain could enter during storms and extreme weather. However, the slatted design does have its advantages, in that it allows air to circulate around your logs, so if they get wet, they will dry out faster.
Although both are described as 4ft log stores, at W 116 x D 64 x H 123 cm, this one is considerably smaller overall than the Cottesmore. This is definitely something to consider if you want to store a lot of logs, and not have to keep topping up your supply.
The store will arrive flat packed, and requires self-assembly, but again, this isn’t difficult. This is our most affordable log store, and although it is a little smaller and less sturdy than others on our list, it’s undoubtedly excellent value. If you only have a small load of logs to store, why spend more?
- Made from treated fir and plywood.
- Waterproof stain to help it withstand the elements.
- Felt on roof for better weather protection.
- Slatted design allows air to circulate.
- Raised floor prevents moisture entering from damp ground.
- Excellent value – this is our most affordable log store.
- Slatted sides could allow more rain and moisture to enter.
- Comparatively small, not as much space for logs.
- Not the sturdiest design.
A wide and high-quality garden log store, with plenty of space for large loads of firewood
Our third log store is this Pressure Treated Large Log Store by The Garden Supplies Centre, which is a particularly heavy-duty model, weighing in at 80kg.
Measuring W 180 x D 69 x H 129 cm, this large log store is our widest model yet, but not quite as deep as our top pick. Depending on the size of your logs, you should still be able to get 2 rows in, and there’s enough space to fit an impressive 1.3 cubic metres of logs in total.
It’s made from pressure-treated wood, and the thick timber panels give it a solid and sturdy feel. The design features a slatted base and lower back panel, which allows air to circulate around your logs. This helps to keep them dry, and ensures you will get the best performance from your logs when the time comes to burn them.
The log store is delivered flat packed and will require some self-assembly – for which 2 people and a power screwdriver are recommended. The screws provided for this are a little flimsy and prone to bending, so you might want to replace them with some stronger ones.
Ultimately, this is another strong and stable log store, with lots of space for your firewood. It’s not the cheapest option on the market, but if your budget will stretch, you won’t be disappointed.
- Strong and stable design.
- Made from pressure-treated wood, for weatherproofing.
- Slatted base and back allow air to circulate.
- Large 180cm width is great for bigger gardens and storing large loads of logs.
- Not the most affordable option.
- Provided screws are poor quality, and may need replacing.
A compact yet high-quality wood store, which can happily hold 1 cubic metre of logs, and is available in a choice of 2 finishes
Cost: No products found.
This Wooden Log Store by Arbor Garden Solutions is similar in size to our value pick. It measures W 119 x D 71 x H 118 cm, and is easily capable of storing 1 cubic metre of logs.
The store features a solid back, base and sides, to keep the weather out. This also means that less air is able to circulate, although a lower rear panel does provide some ventilation.
The base is raised off of the ground, to keep your logs away from the damp. Being made from pressure-treated timber (sourced from responsibly-managed forests), further ensures that your firewood is protected from moisture.
This is another log store that comes in a choice of colours – choose from a Brown or Light Green (Natural) finish. Whilst neither of these are overly exciting, it is nice to have some flexibility regarding the look, and means you can choose the one best suited to your garden.
The log store arrives partially-assembled and just requires a power screwdriver to complete the installation, which should take under an hour. The price is fairly middle-of-the-road, but reasonable considering the quality on offer. If you’re looking for a compact log store that’s robust, durable and hassle-free, this is the one.
- Constructed from pressure-treated timber, and featheredge boards.
- Timber sourced from responsibly-managed forests.
- Solid sides, back and base, to keep rain out.
- Raised base prevents moisture entering from the ground.
- Lower rear panel for ventilation.
- Available in a choice of Brown or Light Green (Natural).
- Not as much air circulation as with a slatted design.
This slim log store has a handy built-in shelf, allowing you to easily separate logs of different sizes – but it’s not the best quality
Cost: No products found.
Our final log store is this small model from Rowlinson. This compact store measures W 117 x D 50 x H 156 cm, so it’s perfect for smaller gardens, as the size is in the height, and it has a comparatively small footprint. Bear in mind that the shallow depth means you’ll only be able to fit 1 row of logs inside.
This log store is unique, to this list at least, in that it also includes a height-adjustable shelf within the store, which can be useful for separating and storing kindling or smaller-sized logs.
This one is again made from solid timber, which is pressure-treated, to protect it against rot. It features an open-slatted design, which allows air to circulate around your logs, helping to keep them dry.
It arrives flat-packed and is easy to assemble. There are some reports from online users of the wood warping, so it’s probably not the most robust option – but the price reflects this. If you’re looking for a small, budget-friendly wood store, you could do a lot worse than this one.
- Made from durable wood.
- Pressure-treated, to protect against rot.
- Includes a built-in shelf, handy for storing kindling.
- Open slat design allows air to circulate around your logs.
- Compact size is ideal for smaller gardens.
- Shallow depth means you’ll only be able to fit a single row of logs in.
- Wood is not the best quality and can be prone to warping.
How To Build A Log Store
To assemble one of the pre-built log stores we’ve featured here, you will need to follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer. As a rule, building a flat-pack log store is fairly straightforward, and will simply involve screwing or nailing the different parts together, for which a power screwdriver and/or hammer is required.
If you’re on a budget, building your own log store could also be an option. For this, you can use an old wooden pallet, sawn down to the height you want your log store to be. Stand the pallet vertically, and screw connecting planks of wood from the pallet to 2 supporting posts, to form the sides of your log store.
Make a roof by screwing together pieces of wood, to create a frame that clears the top of your store. Cut a piece of hardboard to size to cover this, and use a hammer and nails to attach this to the frame. Wrap the whole thing with a piece of roofing felt, place the roof on top of your log store, and screw into place.
Can I Store Kiln Dried Logs Outside?
Kiln dried logs have been sucked dry of moisture in a kiln, and should ideally be stored inside, in a warm location with low humidity. This will keep them dry, and preserve their quality. A large cupboard, larder, basement or garage environment is ideal.
If you have to store your kiln dried logs outside, just bear in mind that the longer they are out there, the more moisture they will absorb from the air. This will reduce their effectiveness, and cause them to burn at a lower temperature.
Using a log store will help to protect your kiln dried logs from rain and moisture, and slow the rate at which they equalise. It is also a good idea to bring the logs inside for a while prior to burning, so they can dry out further.
