From cleaning your decking, windows or car, to watering your plants, hose spray guns will help get the job done. They do this by transforming your regular garden hosepipe into a jet spray gun, which enables you to quickly pressure spray a large area with water, with a simple squeeze of a trigger.
Hose spray guns are usually made from plastic or metal, and look similar to a water pistol, with a main body, nozzle and trigger. To install them, you generally just push the connector at the base of the spray gun onto the end of your hose. Turn on the water at the tap, and you’re ready to spray – easy.

If you’re looking for the best hose spray gun to help speed up your garden tasks, take a look at our 5 favourites on the market, based on their durability, water patterns, and value for money. With one of these super soakers, your outdoor cleaning jobs will be done in a jiffy.
Our favourite spray gun is made from heavy-duty metal, and features 7 water pattern settings, for all-purpose use
This high-quality Multi Garden Hose Spray Gun by FANHAO tops our list of the best hose spray guns, for so many reasons.
Made from 100% metal, the gun and trigger is crafted from a durable, corrosion-resistant zinc alloy, while the rubberised shock-resistant bezel dial on the gun is designed to prevent leaks from the nozzle.
You won’t need to worry about leaks from the base of the gun either, as it’s designed to fit any standard 3/4” EU garden hose, with no adapter required, and features multiple internal rubber washers, for a perfectly tight seal that won’t allow water through.
This user-friendly spray gun features 7 settings, with water patterns including flat, centre, cone, shower, angle, mist and jet stream – so you can select the one most suited to your task.
There’s also a hands-free clip on the gun, enabling you to lock the trigger in place, and reduce user fatigue. This makes it perfect for longer tasks, such as cleaning a large area of decking or watering a lawn.
This isn’t the cheapest option out there, but it’s by no means the most expensive either – and you’re paying for quality. Whether you want to wash your car, clean your dog’s muddy paws, or water your shrubs, this durable and adaptable metal spray gun is sure to make your job easier.
- Made from heavy-duty zinc alloy.
- Corrosion, rust and frost resistant
- 7 water spray settings make it suitable for a wide range of tasks.
- Fits all standard EU 3/4” garden hoses.
- Durable tight seal and fittings prevent leaks.
- Hand-free clip locks the trigger, reducing user strain on longer tasks.
- Not the most affordable option.
Our best value hose spray gun is strong and robust, has an adjustable, far-reaching spray, and is highly affordable
While the FANHAO gun is by no means expensive, there are some more affordable options available – such as this Draper Pattern Spray Gun, which we’ve chosen as our value pick.
This one is again made predominantly from metal – this time a sturdy aluminium – and the handle is a durable plastic. It feels strong and sturdy, while still being lightweight, and – provided you don’t have a faulty item – it doesn’t leak.
The gun has a standard push-fit connector, which will connect to most garden hoses, and will also work with Hozelock connector fittings. The fittings are made from brass, to further improve durability and leak-proofing.
As with our top pick, this metal spray gun features 7 water spray settings, for full flexibility, and to allow you to use it for a wide range of outdoor cleaning and watering tasks. The spray itself is powerful and has a better reach than many competitors.
If you want to leave the jet stream on for a considerable amount of time, there’s a metal loop trigger lock under the handle, so you can lock the flow and save your hands. However, this is perhaps the one poorly designed part of the spray gun, as it’s a little flimsy and prone to getting stuck.
Ultimately though, many online users praise the high quality of this model, compared to inferior plastic designs in a similar, or more expensive price range.
- Made from robust aluminium with brass fittings.
- Compatible with most hoses and connectors.
- 7 adjustable water stream settings.
- Comparatively far-reaching spray.
- From a reputable manufacturer, with 90 years of experience.
- Competitively priced.
- Metal trigger lock is a little flimsy, and prone to jamming.
- Handle is made from plastic, which is weak compared to the metal gun.
This garden hose spray gun is made from ABS plastic, has 8 spray patterns, and includes two guns for the price of one
Our third garden hose spray gun is our first one that’s not made predominantly from metal; instead, this WLZP 2-pack Garden Hose Nozzle is made from durable, lightweight ABS plastic.
The gun has a total of 8 spray patterns, which can be selected by turning the adjuster knob to the desired stream. There’s everything from ‘soaker’ for filling close-range buckets, to ‘jet’ for long-distance watering – and many others in between. If you want to save on user effort, there’s also a trigger lock, to fix the flow.
Perhaps one of the most appealing things about this option is that, despite being our lowest priced option, it actually includes not just one, but two spray guns. This means that two people can water at the same time, and if there’s a problem with one gun, you’ve got a backup immediately on hand.
It has to be said that you may be more likely to experience a problem with this spray gun than the previous models, as it’s made from plastic, rather than metal, and therefore more prone to breakages.
However, ABS plastic is more durable than other plastics, and the rubber-coated handle makes it more comfortable to hold, so it’s really not much of a drawback. For plastic spray guns, these are excellent quality and are a solid choice for anyone who likes to get the most for their money.
- Includes 2 spray guns, for the price of one.
- Adjustable nozzle with 8 spray patterns.
- The rubber coating on handle makes it comfortable to hold.
- Trigger lock fixes the water flow to save labour.
- Universal fixing – fits all standard garden hoses.
- Reasonably priced – our most affordable spray gun.
- Made from plastic, and therefore more prone to breakages than metal competitors.
- Lever to lock the trigger is a little fiddly.
The extended nozzle of this zinc alloy hose spray gun makes it ideal for accessing hard-to-reach areas
For our penultimate option, this Hose Spray Gun by Jabtraxx, we’re going back to a metallic model. This one has a zinc alloy body, with a brass sprayer head, and copper connectors.
The gun differs from all our other models in that the nozzle is extended – the distance from the back of the gun to the nozzle is 26cm. This makes it perfect for cleaning areas that are difficult to access, and also means you’re less likely to get wet during your watering tasks.
The pressure can be adjusted by rotating the head of the sprayer, and you can choose from a mist, spray or jet stream. This is fairly limited compared to the other options we’ve featured, and the stream is not the most powerful, but it will still be plenty for most small-to-medium cleaning tasks.
Included with the spray gun are 3 connector options – 2 x 1/2” quick connectors and 1 x 3/4” Universal connector. These are designed to fit all sizes of hoses, so you shouldn’t need to purchase any additional connectors.
Thanks to its all-metallic finish, this spray gun looks much more expensive than it actually is. In fact, it’s very reasonably priced compared to competitors, and the rust-resistant construction means it should last a considerable amount of time.
- Made from rust-resistant zinc alloy, with brass and copper fixings.
- Extended nozzle is perfect for hard to reach areas.
- Includes 3 connectors, to fit all sizes of hosepipe.
- Adjustable head allows you to control the flow of water, from mist to jet stream.
- Likely to be more durable than plastic models.
- No distinct water pattern options – can only adjust flow.
- Not the most powerful water stream.
This metal-bodied, fully adjustable spray gun comes from one of the most well-known names in the world of hoses
Our final option is this Hozelock Multi Plus Spray Gun, which comes with a robust powder-coated die-cast metal body, and an ergonomic soft-touch handle and trigger, for comfortable operation.
You have a choice of 8 spray patterns with this gun, so it’s highly versatile, and suitable for a wide range of tasks, from misting seedlings to cleaning your car. It also has a patented, infinitely adjustable trigger flow control, so you can have as much or as little water as you need.
The built-in trigger lock is the most advanced of all our spray guns, with 2 stages, allowing you to lock the water stream at either 100% or 40% of the maximum flow. Some online users report that the trigger is prone to getting stuck in the ‘on’ position, so watch out for this – if you have hard water in your area, soaking the gun in limescale remover may be worth a try.
Hozelock are one of the most well-known names in this field, and many people will already own Hozelock hoses or connectors. If this is the case, purchasing a Hozelock spray gun can give you the reassurance that it’s compatible with your current set-up.
This Hozelock spray gun is our most expensive hose spray gun (just), but we think it could be worth the money for anyone looking for a quality product from a trusted brand, or to replace an old Hozelock model.
- Made from durable, powder-coated metal.
- Patented infinitely adjustable trigger flow control.
- Choice of 8 spray patterns.
- Comfortable soft-touch ergonomic handle.
- 2 stage lockable trigger for a steady water stream.
- From a well-known and trusted brand.
- The trigger is prone to getting stuck in the ‘on’ position.
- Needs to be stored inside over winter to avoid cracking.
- You pay for the brand name – this is our priciest hose spray gun.
How To Fit A Spray Gun To A Hose Pipe
The best way to fit a spray gun to a hose pipe depends on the model you have purchased. Most modern spray guns come with a quick release, push-fit connector that’s compatible with all standard garden hoses and common fixings, such as Hozelock connectors, that you may already have on the end of your hosepipe.
If your spray gun comes with a push-fit connecting system, you should be able to simply push the connector at the base of your spray gun into the end of the connector on the hose, as far as it will go, and you’ll be ready to spray.
Other, older styles may require you to screw a specific connector fitting onto the hosepipe first. You will find this process easier if the end of your hosepipe is completely smooth and flat – you might need to trim it with scissors or a knife to remove any jagged edges.
In most cases, fitting a spray gun to your hose pipe is really quite straightforward. However, it is always a good idea to consult the manufacturer’s instructions of your chosen hose spray gun prior to purchase, to make 100% sure it is compatible with your hose pipe.
